Why buyers specify it
Usually for a reason beyond preference. Federal and many state contracts carry domestic content requirements. Union programs and political campaigns frequently mandate it. Manufacturers and trade associations use it because the claim sits at the center of their own message. In each of those cases the bag has to be domestic, and a close substitute does not solve the problem.
What the claim covers, and what it does not
Made in USA on a finished bag does not mean the fabric was woven in the United States. Cotton and polyester fabric is frequently imported and cut and sewn domestically, which is a different claim from fully domestic content. If your contract specifies a content threshold, or references the Berry Amendment or a Buy American clause, tell us the exact wording before you order. We will get the supplier’s country-of-origin documentation rather than relying on a catalog line, because this is the one place where an assumption becomes a contract problem.
Practical trade-offs
Domestic production usually means a higher unit cost and a shorter shipping leg, which offsets part of it. Lead times are often better than overseas direct, and small reorders are easier. The range of styles is narrower than the imported catalog, so start from this tag rather than finding a bag you like and asking whether it comes domestic.
