Insulated tote bags hold food and drinks at temperature on the way to a picnic, a jobsite lunch or a client delivery, and they carry your logo the whole trip. How cold, and for how long

Be careful what you promise your recipients. A promotional soft cooler is an insulated bag, not a hard cooler. With a foil or PEVA liner and no ice pack, most of these styles hold temperature for roughly two to four hours. Add a gel pack or frozen bottles and you get most of a working day. If you need overnight retention, you are looking at a rotomolded hard cooler, not a tote.

Liners and seams

Two things decide whether a cooler tote survives its second use. The liner is usually PEVA (soft, food-safe, flexible) or a foil laminate (better reflectance, stiffer). The seams matter more: heat-sealed liners resist leaks, sewn liners do not. If the bag will carry ice, loose cans or anything that sweats, insist on heat-sealed. Picking a size

Capacity on these is quoted in cans, which is the most reliable way to compare across suppliers.

  • Lunch totes, around 8" x 10" x 10", take one meal plus a drink. The everyday desk and jobsite size.
  • 12 to 18 can, around 5" to 7" deep by 14" wide, covers a family picnic or a small team.
  • 24 to 36 can, up to 10" x 13" x 15", is the tailgate and catering size, usually with a shoulder strap because it gets heavy when full.

Decorating an insulated bag

Screen printing works on non-woven and polyester shells and is the cheapest route at volume. Heat transfer and full-color printing suit laminated and coated surfaces where screen ink would not key properly. Embroidery is the one to think twice about: the needle perforates the shell, and on a thin-walled cooler that can reach the liner. We will tell you when a style is better screen printed than embroidered, even though embroidery is the more expensive option.
