Two different bags under one name
The RTIC tote range splits cleanly, and buying the wrong half is the common mistake.
- Ultra-Tough waterproof totes, in 25L and 40L, are welded rather than stitched. No insulation, but genuinely waterproof, built for boats, job sites and gear hauling.
- Everyday insulated totes and soft pack coolers, in sizes up to around 35L, are the cooler side: closed-cell insulation, leakproof liners and zip closures for food and drinks.
If the recipient wants gear kept dry, the first group is right. If they want drinks kept cold, the second. The waterproof totes are not insulated, whatever the size suggests.
Cold retention, realistically
A soft insulated tote is not an RTIC hard cooler. With ice and a full load, the insulated styles hold cold through a long day rather than across days. Retention depends far more on how full the bag is and how often it is opened than on the badge. A half-empty cooler warms fast; pack the void space with more ice.
Decorating a technical bag
These are decorated by digital transfer, direct to film and four-color process, not screen printing, because the coated and welded surfaces do not take screen ink reliably. That means full-color artwork reproduces well and there is no per-color screen charge, but the transfer sits on the surface as a film and will show wear on a bag that gets hard use. Keep the mark on a flat panel away from seams and welds.
